Berlinale 2013: Day 9

The penultimate day of the Festival started with "Nobody's Daughter Haewon" directed by Hong Sang-Soo, a Korean star. His previous movies included "In Another Country" with Isabelle Huppert, which I found a little pretentious, but nevertheless somehow understand, why might he be popular. There is this certain "allen" vibe, but it is a gross misunderstanding to place the Korean in the same line with the genius New Yorker. I wasn't bored watching "Haewon", I found it pretty interesting, until the story was leading somewhere. But then it suddenly stopped and I felt like moving around with all the characters entangled in difficult mutual relationships. A nice touch to the competition, but I didn't think it could be the "it" film of the Berlinale.

Top 10: Contemporary Female Actors

Just a few days ago I published my Top 10 favorite contemporary actors (as opposed to all-time favorites, which I will perhaps publish one day too) here. This is finally time to give a piece of mind on female actors (not actresses) that I find particularly intriguing. It must be however stressed, that as with male actors I had no problem (in fact my initial list had over 20 names there), with female actors it gets pretty complicated. Not that there are no interesting females acting, of course not. It's just that for obvious reasons it is usually men that are observed more cautiously. Completely unfair, right? Well, that is the world we live in. A man's world. With no further ado, let's have a look at the prettier and/or more talented side of Hollywood.

10. Rebecca Hall

Favorite roles:
"Starter for 10," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," "Frost/Nixon," in theatre: "Winter's Tale," "The Cherry Orchard" in The Old Vic London, directed by Sam Mendes.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield

One of nicest couples in Hollywood, met while filming "The Amazing Spiderman" directed by Marc Webb ("500 Days of Summer"). The movie itself - one of the best of the genre, a refreshing gust of air after watching the pains of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in the previous parts.
Before you check it out, see how cool a couple Stone and Garfield are!
